Bio

Russell began with GSNCA in January 2013 as the community partnership chief and as more than 19 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Russell is a former Hoover firefighter and founder of Kid One Transport, a nonprofit organization in Alabama that has transported today over 20,000 medically ill children to the doctor. After passing the baton at Kid One Transport, Russell has held the positions of director of development for the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, chief operating officer for the Alabama Association of Nonprofits and chief development officer for Sight Savers America. Additionally, he has worked with several nonprofits in a consulting role.

Russell’s past civic involvement includes president of the Birmingham Junior Chamber of Commerce, president of the Birmingham Council of Clubs, trustee chair of Discovery United Methodist, board vice-president of the Hoover City Schools Foundation, board member of Voices for Alabama’s Children, and PTO president at Deer Valley Elementary in Hoover.

Russell and his wife, Mary, have two children. The family attends Church of the Highlands in Birmingham.
