Building Birmingham – Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors
April 5, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Soon after Birmingham was established in 1871, engineers laid out the city’s streets and avenues and they invited architects and developers to fill in the new city’s blocks with buildings, neighborhoods and parks. Some built skyscrapers modeled on those in cities like Chicago. Others designed grand boulevards, parks and neighborhoods. For Vulcan’s Building Birmingham patch, participants will take advantage of the view from Vulcan to explore several of the city’s architectural highlights. They will also immerse themselves in architectural design by mapping out their own imaginary cities. This program will help each Girl Scout develop her sensitivity to architectural design and function within the framework of local history.
