Location: Bridgestreet Town Centre, The Gap, Huntsville
Grade level: All
Cost: $5 (includes snack and supplies to make mini sewing kits to donate to a local charity)
Registration deadline: July 12, 2013
Where do you, fashion and your community come together? At the Gap. The Bridgestreet Town Centre Gap location in Huntsville will again sponsor a fashion event just in time for back to school. Girls will rotate through three stations. In the Career station, girls will learn about the roles of people who support a large corporation like the Gap; from store manager and retail clerk to CEO, fashion designer and clothing manufacturer. Seniors and Ambassadors will get a special behind-the-scenes look at the skills needed to work in a retail store like the Gap, and they’ll practice their communications skills in preparation for the fashion show. At the Mending station, all girls will get hands-on experience learning how to sew on a button, how to hem, ways to stylishly patch denim, and the art of ruching as a restyling technique. At the Donation station, girls will have the opportunity to give needed summer items, such as insect repellent and sunscreen, to the homeless through a local charity. They will also package mini sewing kits with instructions, sharing their sewing skills with others. For the fashion show, 25 girls will highlight the latest upcoming styles and trends, with up to five older girls taking turns emceeing the show. Get your diva on and send your name, troop number, Girl Scout level, leader name and phone/email, with interest (fashion show or Senior/Ambassador emcee) to Michelle_Broglie@stores.gap.com. Fashion show and emcee openings are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Seniors and Ambassadors are welcome and encouraged to volunteer to help staff. Instructions on completing registration will be provided after contacting Michelle. Note, this is not a GSNCA council-sponsored event, so please direct all questions and registrations to Michelle at the the Gap.
