As a new volunteer we ask that you complete the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) online orientation to familiarize yourself with the Girl Scout program, our organizational culture, and the opportunities available to you. It only takes about 45 minutes to complete this course.
To access the course:
- Go to: http://training.girlscouts.org/
- Enter the password: discover. There will be a short introduction.
- Set up a Learning Log.
- Return to the Table of Contents to begin the course. You will be asked to respond to questions in your Learning Log during the course. At the end of each section you will need to click on the Table of Contents to move to the next section.
- Save your Learning Log at the end of the session. You do not have to complete the course in one session and will be given an access code to return to your Learning Log.
Once you have completed the online GSUSA Orientation you will receive additional training specific to your position. The council staff that recruited you or is responsible for the program or area in which you will be working will direct you to the appropriate learning opportunities. For example, if you are a Fall Product Sales or Troop Cookie Sales Manager you will be asked to attend the appropriate sales training to learn about sales procedures, deadlines, etc.
If you are working directly with girls you will be asked to complete our council’s orientation, “Connect with Your Council,” during which you will learn about our facilities, procedures, and resources. When you attend you will be given a Training Record card. Please make sure you write in the dates you completed the GSUSA online and our council’s orientation on your card.
Troop volunteers are also required to attend a “Developing a Girl Scout Leader” class to learn about our program resources, how to work with girls in a troop setting, and many other related topics. This course and many others are open to all volunteers. There are several sessions scheduled throughout the year and you are encouraged to complete the course as soon as possible. By council policy both orientation courses and “Developing a Girl Scout Leader” must be completed within six months of your appointment as a volunteer.
Thank you for being a Girl Scout volunteer!
